During Agnès' stay in Japan in 2005, she was fascinated by Hiraku Suzuki’s work. She has initiated working together with him, resulting in a collaboration on bags. This season, in pursuit of her enthusiasm for art, Agnès joins hands with Hiraku Suzuki again to launch a new crossover series, “Signes Sauvage”, in our FW21 collection.Inspired by Hiraku Suzuki’s art style towards the traversing boundary between language and pictures, the black and white symbols were derived from echoing Agnès’ birthday last year. This dynamic symbols take a center stage adding an artsy whimsical touch on multiple crossover items. The shoulder bags and T-shirts have been translated into canvas that allow Hiraku Suzuki to interpret his dynamic symbol. The all-over print plays a cool artsy twist on your timeless style in the dull winter.
To know more about the story of Agnès and Hiraku Suzuki collaboration, we could start with a letter Hiraky wrote: “These pictorial and textual signs are fragments of my recent correspondences with A. When I first met A, our conversation went like this. (On the streets of Tokyo in 2005, when I was just another hooded B-Boy.) A: ”You’ve loved drawing and writing since you were a kid, haven’t you? ” H: ”Uh, yes” A: ”Then you're a friend of mine. ” And like that, my heart was struck with light. A light I had forgotten a long time ago and I knew that I had a friend. Someone who understood my work perhaps better than I did. From that moment on, A and I would have all the good times in the world. We would have Zubrowka together and draw/write things on stones, walls, and paper. A's eyes always seemed to be moving back and forth between pictures and words, movies and reality. Paris, New York, wherever I went, A's friends were there and I was introduced to them. My hero Jonas Mekas was one of them. A also told me stories of spending time with Basquiat and Picasso, both of whom continue to cast light in her heart. (Perhaps drawing/writing is a way of finding new and familiar friends in the expanse of time and space of the universe. That's how we connect the dots of light and acquire our own signs, I suppose.) On A's birthday last year, I scribed some signs that came to mind at the time, took pictures with my phone and sent them to her. A returned the mark of love as usual. A correspondence that will always be. With Friendship and Love for Agnès b.
