Blood cancer, one of the top 10 biggest cancer killers. Over 1,000 people are diagnosed with blood cancer each year in Hong Kong. What causes blood cancer? Can I reduce my risk of blood cancer? There are actually many types of blood cancer with different symptoms, treatments and prognosis.
To raise public awareness of rare blood disease, the Hong Kong Blood Cancer Foundation organised the “Rare Blood Disease Educational Exhibition: How do blood cells get sick?" at Lee Theatre Plaza, Causeway Bay. It runs from today (October 11) to October 17, introducing how DNA relates to the diseases and the causes and symptoms of nine different rare blood diseases. Hong Kong Blood Cancer Foundation Vice-chairman Dr. Liang Hin Suen Raymond, today officiated at the opening ceremony with the guests cancer survivor Audrey Kwan, Paralympic medallist, former Hong Kong athlete So Wa Wai and actor Leung Chung Hang. Speaking at the ceremony, Dr Liang said the exhibition aims to raise the public awareness of rare blood diseases including causes and symptoms of the diseases. Cancer survivor Audrey Kwan also shared how she fought with cancer and her feelings in the ceremony. Paralympic medallist, former Hong Kong athlete So Wa Wai and actor Leung Chung Hang who acted as So in the movie “Zero to Hero” shared in the ceremony about their experiences in pursuing their dreams. They also told the audience how they learned about rare blood diseases through the exhibition. There are two parts of the exhibition, interactive exhibits and “instagramable” photo spots.
